Hey Friends of Bree! This is Rachel and Sarah from Two's Company: A Double-Take.  Bree asked us to occupy a day on her blog while she's off NaNo-ing.
We know it's only mid-November and we know Christmas is still relatively a bit of a ways off, but Christmas is our family's favorite time of year. So many family memories are wrapped up in this brief season between Thanksgiving and Christmas! So many traditions and habits and fun things happen in four short weeks every year! Some families don't get near as "into" it as we do, and frankly we feel downright sorry for them. We have traditions out the gump-stump!
"You may ask, how did this tradition start? I'll tell you - I don't know. But it's a tradition... Because of our traditions, everyone knows who he is and what God expects him to do."
;) Kidding, of course. But just for kicks and giggles and generally-getting-into-the-merriment-of-the-season, we thought we'd share with you our family's traditions. :)

The first and most important and treasured is Advent. I suppose this season has roots in the Catholic church (?) but it's such a precious time. Basically, for every night four weeks before Christmas Day we gather as a family to sing the beloved Christmas hymns, read a bit of something, light another candle on our advent log, and pray together.

Advent means "waiting" and we wait in this fashion for Christmas Day--the birthday of our Savior, Jesus Christ. It's such a great way to keep focused during the fly-away busyness of December! Our brother, Daniel, wrote up a series of posts on the importance of Advent which you can find here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here. They're actually not that long and very much worth reading, so if you're curious, check them out! :)

We watch Eloise at Christmastime. It's seriously the best, brightest, cutest holiday movie you'll ever seen. Bar non. Watch it ASAP.

We suck our candy canes and get them as sharp as we can before the tips break.

Our whole family piles in the van and treks down to the Holiday lights on the boardwalk.

We wait til the last minute to do our shopping. Rachel wrote about this strange "tradition" last year and how we'd never change it.

We added a tradition of making gingerbread men last year.

Ever since we were little we've watched the classic Christmas cartoons including Frosty, the Grinch, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

We decorate our Christmas tree with a hodge-podge of ornaments collected throughout the years. There's no real theme, except family. Each ornament has it's own story and a while back we did a post with lots of pictures.

As you can see, our family LOVES the holiday season. :) What are some of your favorite things about Christmas?

Rachel and Sarah are sisters who blog over at Two's Company. They write about a little bit of everything, so swing by and check it out!
