What's In My Bag? (April 2015)

Wednesday, April 08, 2015

I've been wanting to do one of these posts for a while now - maybe it's because I'm nosy, but I always love seeing the way people organise their handbags, what their essentials are, what they carry around 24/7, and what fun, pretty things they see fit to throw in the mix. I figure spring is the best time to do it, when I've just had a little bag-clear-out and everything is succinct and organised. I also think it's a nice way to sneak in reviews of things I may not talk about as much on this space, but still love.

So whether you're nosy like me or simply want to know more about some of the products, read on!

My handbag is a Forever 21 satchel that I found at a consignment store, actually - I would have paid full price for it as it probably was not too expensive, but finding it even cheaper and still in perfect condition? I'll take it! I had been looking for a satchel for a while before I found it, and I've used it practically nonstop since. Under the front flap there is a hidden pocket, and within there are two slot-pockets and one zipper pocket.

Overview: I always keep a book with me; iPod 5th Generation in Silver, Forever 21 compact, EOS mint, headphones, random chocolates from a party, a Bic mechanical pencil, Juicy Couture "Viva La Juicy" rollerball and lipgloss combo, thrifted cateye sunglasses, Burts Bees refreshing grapefruit lipbalm, L'Oreal Julianne Nude Lipstick, Victoria's Secret lip gloss in Strawberry, way too much tip change.

1. BOOK: Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
What I love about this bag is that most books fit perfectly in the main body section, and I cannot go anywhere without a book (case in point: I forgot a book yesterday and regretted it when I had nearly an hour off.) I'm currently reading Mere Christianity, and loving it; it's one of those books that you are never quite finished reading, and I'm quite alright with that.

2. DEVICE: iPod
I usually keep this in a white rubberised case, but because that picks up dust, I'll occasionally go without (as shown here). I don't like to be glued to my screen constantly, but when I'm going out and need to share a blog post, want to respond to comments or keep lists/calendars/notes, this is terribly convenient. And of course, I have multiple playlists I listen to in the car/etc.

3. COMPACT: Forever 21
I think I got this little one as a gift; it's nothing complex, just a compact that happens to have two large, clear mirrors and a cute exterior. This one is always sitting in the bottom of my handbag, while the rest of these items are a little less regular. ;)

4. LIP BALM: EOS
Of all the purse essentials, this one I cannot live without. For some reason my lips are consistantly dry - especially in the winter, but even a lot in the summer - and this one works brilliantly. I've tried the Strawberry flavor as well, but I find the Mint a bit more hydrating, as well as very refreshing.

5. HEADPHONES
As previously mentioned, I do very little without the accompaniment of music. More often then not I'm around people who do not also want to listen to my ecclectic groupings: thus, the earbud enters. ;)

6. FOOD: random chocolates
I don't often carry around food in my bag - I find I never eat it and it ends up wasted. However, these chocolates were from a birthday party I went to a weekish ago; I couldn't eat them because it was Lent, but I knew someone else in the house would enjoy them, and I kept them.

7. PENCIL: BIC
Another essential for me is a pencil/pen, because no matter where I am I always end up needing to write things down (especially if I've brought a book with me that I want to annotate). I love these mechanical pencils because they write well, and you can easily withdraw the lead so that it doesn't get all over the interior of your bag.

8. PERFUME: Viva La Juicy rollerball
I won this one in a gift exchange, and though I don't take it with me all the time (often I'm wearing Our Moment, and I don't want to mix scents) if I know I'm going to be out all day, I'll put this on in the morning and pop it in my bag. If you can find a rollerball you like, it's a wonderful method to boost your confidence mid-day.

9. SUNNIES: cateye
I have no idea where these come from; I bought them at Plato's Closet, however, and they're the most comfortable sunglasses I've ever owned. Plus, there's just something about a large, glamorous pair that makes you feel chic.

10. LIPS: too many products
You all know my obession with lipstick, so it should come as no surprise to you that, aside from my lip balm, I'm carrying around three other products. >.< The Burt's Bees one is a wonderful alternative to EOS; the L'Oreal lipstick is my favorite pinky-nude shade; the Victoria's Secret lipgloss is one of the only non-sticky glosses I've found, horribly grubby from banging around in my bag for way too long, and it tastes deliciously of strawberry shortcake. If they still sell it, I would recommend picking one up. :)

11. TOO MUCH CHANGE
I work at a cafe, therefore I get tip money in the form of the pennies people get as change from their orders. Suffice it to say, my bag is always full of them, and this was what was in it when I went to shoot these photos. XD

What essentials do you take with you on the daily?

  1. That is a cute bag! I love how you pack light. And Burt's Bees is awesome! I love their peppermint flavor.

I usually don't carry a handbag. I have this terrible habit of: if it's not on my person I leave it behind. :P I'll take a backpack to school, but otherwise pockets are my best friends.

My wallet is small enough for a jean pants pocket. I always keep Blisticks, because my lips always dry. My Iphone 5s doubles as my notebook. The Notes folder is full of lists, scenes, plots, or just random thoughts. Also I keep two sets of the same keys on me. One set in each side pocket. I use one regularly, while the other is a back up in case I lock my keys in the car. *cough* Yeah, this became a habit after maybe the fifth time I locked myself out of my car. . .

P.S. - Mere Christianity is awesome! I love the way C. S. Lewis explains things. He puts it so simply, yet accurately. It just makes sense.

    1. Thanks Ashley! I love crossbody bags for that very reason - if I'm carrying around something small (especially strapless), I'm more than likely to loose it. A crossbody I just keep on me all day if I'm out, and haven't forgotten one yet. ;)

Backup keys is a good idea. You can never be overprepared. ;)

  2. Cute bag! Forever 21, surprisingly, has some really adorable designer-inspired bags and they always seem to impress me.
