While I wouldn't consider myself a true minimalist yet - and to be honest, I don't know if I ever will be completely - but I've definitely gotten to a phase in my life where I just don't want that much stuff around all the time. I've always loved clearing out (OCD perhaps?) but it was usually more for the purpose of a turnover; to refill with newer, prettier things. Now, I'm being more conscious about only putting things in my wardrobe, and really my life as a whole, that not only have a good purpose - but will serve that purpose well for a long time. And that's at the core of the minimalist lifestyle.
These are the Autumnal bits I consider essential - but yours are probably different! I'd love to hear what you love during the Autumn months. :)
1. LARGE MUG (beautiful style here)
Autumn is as magical as it is particularly due to the fact that it is perfect tea-drinking weather, and there are so many spicy flavors of tea to experiment with. I love a large mug for hand-swaddling especially.
2. KITSCH PHONE CASE
Okay, so technically this is a year-round favorite, but I couldn't resist including it. Mine is from Kate Spade.
3. FAIRISLE KNIT BOOT SOCKS
It doesn't get that cold in the south until around Christmas, but that doesn't mean I don't wear cute thick socks anyway! Perfect for around the house with blue jeans and plaid or peeking out of your favorite ankle boots. J. Crew's famous camp socks are on sale for $8 now too...
I'm a sucker for candles but weirdly enough, I don't actually burn them that often! I think I'm still a little paranoid about house fires...but fears aside, I've still got a plain vanilla candle from last Autumn to use up this year - not complaining about that! Yankee Candle's Autumn Pumpkin one looks amazing too, so I'm hoping to pick that one up to add to the collection. ;)
5. M.A.C. "Yash"
If you want to read my full review, click here. The short of it, though, is that this lipstick is an amazing brown-nude and I'm obsessed. M.A.C. does free shipping and returns too, so it's a win-win!
6. SLENDER LEATHER WATCH
I should probably get a new one because the wristband of this one is disintegrating, but I can't get over how cute it is - and it was my mom's way back when she and my dad were newly weds, so it's got that sentimental value too. :) If I were to replace it though (of course not getting rid of the old one), I'd LOVE to replace it with this one from Daniel Wellington. Classic, classy and the sort of thing you could pass on to a daughter of your own one day...(I'm a sentimental woman. ;)
Self-explanatory. I use the classic Apple ones.
Typically seen as a Summer element, I actually find myself wearing these just as much if not more in the Autumn. The sun is setting earlier in the evening, and so especially when I'm driving I like to keep these handy. Mine are old; these are similar.
9. A GOOD WARM READ ("New York Diaries" edited by Teresa Carpenter)
I always carry a book with me. Always. So when I discovered this little New York almanac of diary entries, stuffed between various other histories at the library, I was intrigued. I've just begun to skim the pages and delve the snippets of life packed therein and already I'm really enjoying it.
10. STURDY RUCKSACK
Because I do a lot of walking during the day, to and from work and to different places around our area, a trusty backpack is my bag of choice - especially as it gets cooler and I don't want my hands out of my pockets holding a purse handle! This one from Kate Spade was a bit of an impulse buy at the time, but has truly been one of the best investments I've ever made, as I use it practically every day.
11. MADEWELL JEANS
These were actually passed on to me from a friend, but the fit is amazing and the quality something you can just feel putting them on. There are few fashion items worth splurging on, but a solid pair of black skinny jeans that you can wear again and again and again are definitely one of those few. If you don't have the budget for Madewell, Gap are a step down price-wise but still a good quality option.
What are your Autumn Essentials, friends?
